Ekaterina Veiman

Ekaterina’s practice is rooted in questions of identity, displacement, and the experience of non-belonging. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and photography, she uses the act of making as a way of thinking through what it means to exist between places, cultures,
and definitions of self.

At the centre of this inquiry is a feeling Ekaterina thinks of as "not being at home", a state that can be experienced in a foreign country and equally in one's own. She is interested in the internal dimension of displacement: the loss of grounding, the blurring of identity that often accompanies migration, yet is not limited to it. This condition can emerge geographically, culturally, or psychologically.

Ekaterina's practice does not sit still in one medium. This movement between disciplines is intentional; she is drawn to the friction that arises when
forms migrate into unexpected territories, much like the experience of migration itself.

Painting splits the horse across two canvases. Front on one, back on the other. A body mid-transition, or mid-collapse it is not clear which.
The pose holds both: ready to rise, or having just been brought down. The separation between the canvases is where the question lives.
